Hardwood flooring can be a beautiful addition to your home, provided that it looks like it should. What do you do when the floor is a source of stress, dissapointment, or concern? What is causing the problem? Who is responsible? What can be done to correct the problem? Can it be fixed or does the whole floor need to be replaced?
Don't be mislead or taken advantage of. Hiring your own inspector is the ONLY way you are going to get ALL the answers. This is the only way the inspector is truly working for you, on your behalf.
We have seen it happen hundreds of times. The homeowner doesn't want to spend any money for an inspection. They complain to the dealer or contractor who then requests a mill inspection from the flooring's manufacturer. The manufacturer will hire an inspector, who may or may not be certified, to do the inspection. The manufacturer only needs to be able to answer 2 questions from the inspection report.
1. Are there any manufacturing defects?
2. Are there any warrantied issues?
The report the manufacturer paid for is not expected to answer any other questions. The manufacturer doesn't need to know about the installation or local environmental conditions.
